urine tests 

Just received an interesting email and thought I'd share it.

Like many in this country, I have a job.  I work, and I am paid for my work. I faithfully pay my taxes to the government and they distribute them as they see fit.  In many cases, future employees are required to pass a random urine test in order to get a job, and this is no problem.

Where the problem begins, is when our tax money is distributed to people who don't have to pass a urine test. Shouldn't one have to pass a urine test in order to receive an assistance check, because the rest of the population has to pass one to earn it for them. I know most of us have no problem helping people get back on their feet, in fact, that's a good thing. On the other hand, I know many of us have a problem helping someone sit on their butt.  Could you imagine how much money the state would save if people had to pass a urine test to get an assistance check? Hmm, what do you think?

No one should have to pass a urine test, it was my understanding the supreme court decided at some point we have a right to privacy with respect to our bodies.

Urine tests, as far as I can see, are a clear violation of this alleged "right" that we supposedly have.

Now, I don't have a problem passing one, but, I'm more than a little annoyed at the prospect. Are employers going to start testing for pregnancy before hiring people? Are we going to see if a prospective employee has genes that might make them prone to work-place violence? (we already allow MMPI tests for example)

Urine tests (or blood tests etc..) are a violation of privacy and should not be tolerated. If your employer asks you to take one, you might remind them of this.

I'm all for not giving anyone a DIME unless they can pass a urine test. I will not let my hard urned money goto some how support their habit.
