western digital my book 500gb

a review on wd my book 500gb drives

Western Digital makes many different drives. Today im going to discuss the essential and pro editions. In picking out my external drive cost was the biggest factor for me. I bought the my book essential edition for a low price of $150.00 from dell. The biggest difference that I knew about was the choice of usb 2 with the essential edition and firewire with the pro edition. Along with some handy indicators and other small things. I didn't realize that the usb 2 would be as slow as it is. It uses the processor on my computer where the firewire wouldn't have. So incase you are trying to decide between the two. Keep that in mind. It's not the biggest downfall in the world, I saved lots of money going with the essential edition and just run my data backups at night with some free sofware I found called

GoodSync which you can download at http://www.goodsync.com

In summary, if you can get the pro edition for a few extra bucks go for it cuz it will make you happy in the long run when your drive kicks on and your computer wont bog down a bit. Otherwise the essential edition works great for large data storage and backups.
